A Hen Party...


I was going to call it a 'soiree' but when I looked it up in the dictionary I found that meant an evening gathering. Then I found "Hen Party"~circa 1885 and it means 'a party for women only'. I got a giggle out of that! :-)
Yesterday at noon, I hosted a Hen Party! ;-) Thinking, because it's after Christmas and all the hub-bub and busyness has died down, it'd be a perfect time to invite some gal pals over.

I snapped a few pics before everyone arrived, then totally forgot to take any pictures after that! Oh well.

I made Poppyseed Cake, Cucumber Sandwiches, Tortilla Pinwheels, and Chicken Salad Sandwhiches..several ladies brought goodies to share, too.

Courtney made to-die-for Shortbread Tartletts!! Soooo good! She's the resident baker in our family.

Coffee and two types of tea for refreshment..

Everything was served on snack-sets..remember them from the 50's? I have several sets of them and they come in so handy..the cup fits on the plate with the food and the ladies were free to sit where ever they wanted in the house..including the dining table.

I had candles lit everywhere...the flickering light was so pretty!
About 20 ladies showed up and we all had a lovely, relaxing time. I think I may be on to something..hosting Hen Party the week after Christmas every year!

I think Steve and I will ring in the New Year quietly tonight..I'm fighting a cold and getting cozy by the fire sounds like heaven to me!

    This looks like alot of fun and a great new tradition! I too have some of those snack sets, they were my grandmother's and I found some extras to match. I plan to use them next for my DIL's baby shower.
    Love your house all decorated for Christmas, so pretty.

    Oh how I wish I could've been there at your party - you have some lucky hens there, getting treated to such visual and epicurean delights!! I am always so inspired by your tablescapes and your decorating in general...you have been a big influence on how I decorate at the shop...LOVE your sense of style and attention to detail!!!! (the men's table was exceptionally wonderful, btw)
    I have been meaning to stop by long enough to congratulate you on the addition of PRECIOUS Lindy to your family - you must just be beside yourself with pride and joy! Also, your article and photos in the feature they did on you in the paper was wonderful - and my GOODNESS, what a stunning job you did on the Christmas decorations throughout your home...just LOVELY!! I am partial to the mantle decor...wow!!

    Wow, everything is just gorgeous!! I know everyone had a wonderful time! All the sandwiches sound de~lish! And how adorable are the shortbread tartletts Courtney made, I know those were yummy too :)

    I have had a cold since Christmas {think it's gone now!}...Doug and I were party animals on New Years Eve....well, not really, we stayed in and tried to stay up until midnight...staying home, safe and comfy always sounds better! :)
