My Trip to Fortuna

Last week I went up north to visit my sweet friend, Sue, in Fortuna, California. (It's near Eureka)

Sue and I've been friends for 30 years..when we were pregnant with our first born's..we were both in the same childbirth class. We've lived in the same town only two years but managed to keep close ties.
Sue's the kind of person who makes it a party where ever she goes. Always has a positive attitude..
...And doesn't take life too seriously. It's impossible to be in a bad mood around Sue~you just have too much FUN with her!!
We crammed a lot of fun in during my stay..we went to a Mexican Restaurant for dinner and met her Book Club gals..(an enjoyable group!)
Took in a movie. Shopped the thrift stores and swap meet, breakfasted at a cute coffee shop in Fortuna, lunched on fish & chips in Eureka, and went to a party at her friends who belonged to a Vintage Car Club.
Steve came up for the weekend and while he and Sue's husband, Doug, went on a ride..
we shopped. Tootled around old Eureka. This is the only shop I took pics of.
Full of vintage goodness!!
Later on Saturday we took in the Vintage Car Show
Here's Sue posing, and Doug checking out the cars..
I loved this car!
Steve and Doug checking out the cars..
Later that evening we ate dinner at the Lost Coast Brewery in Eureka.

I am so grateful I have friends in my life that, although we don't see each other in person very often, we can just pick up where we leave off. Stay up till 1 a.m. talking. And still never run out of anything to talk about!
To have friends like that feeds my soul and nurtures my spirit. I came home revived and refreshed!
On our way home Steve and I went into Ferndale to nosh on their famous hamburger at the No Brand Burger Stand.
A dinky little place, and although I don't get  one very often, it  had the best hamburgers I've tasted in a long time!
Thanks, Doug and Sue, for a wonderful time!!

Tabletop Tuesday

I've been putterin' around the house lately and one of the things I did was re-do the side-board display. Thought it a good time to play along with Marty's Tabletop Tuesday at A Stroll Thru Life!

I lightened things up a bit..with a cream colored table runner, and pastel colored accessories.

This cherub candle holder is one of my favorite pieces..it was a white thrift store find and my friend, Judy, showed me how to paint it to give it a more European feel. I decoupaged the cherub plate years ago. I love this little vignette!

A collection of recent garage sale finds!

All ready for 'tea'! The sugar bowl was missing it's knob, so I just glued on a vintage earring for the top. The teapot was a gift from my sweet husband a few years ago.

And my collection of pitchers atop the buffet! I've also started collecting "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" plates. So far I have three. I heard somewhere that if you have three of something it's officially a collection! ;-)

Be sure to pop over to A Stroll Thru Life for other fabulous Tabletop displays!
Have a great day!!

Inspirational Party Today

Good Morning! Cindy, over at I Owe It All To HIM invited me to join her Inspirational Party where we share our favorite Bible verse. Must confess, my favorite Bible verse changes often...it is usually chosen by what I am going through at the time. God has always led me to a verse to speak encouragement to me.
I found this scripture plaque at an antique store and used it to make a collage plate. It is ONE of my favorite verses: Psalm 37:5 "Commit thy way unto the Lord, trust also in Him and He shall bring it to pass".
I hope it brings encouragement to YOU today!!

Mind Wide Open~July Challenge

This month's word prompt for July's Mind Wide Open challenge was BLISS and this is the image that Gail provided.
I found this poem by William Wordsmith and thought it perfect for the image:

I started with anaglypta wallpaper adhered to heavy duty cardboard, then painted and antiqued it. On top of that I glued on vintage sheet music that I stamped to add more texture..layered over that is the image Gail provide.  I printed the poem right on the image.

Finished it all off with old lace and buttons and a vintage earring. It hangs by black velvet ribbon..
Be sure to visit Mind Wide Open and vote for your favorite!!

Green Paper Art Challenge

I found out that Mary over at Green Paper was offering an art challenge using these images she supplied:
And here is what I came up with:
I created a wall hanging, covering thick cardboard with vintage sheet music, and using the 'envelope' image, created a pocket for various tags, including the one Mary supplied.
Looking thru my stash I found a few "French" themed images as well as butterflies to tie in with the sheet music I used.
I imagined this gal had gone to Paris and saved a few souvenirs..

This was a fun challenge! Thanks, Mary, for the inspiration! Be sure to check Green Paper for other's who participated~~they are so talented!!
