Regaining Balance

transitive verb balanced to weigh in or as in a balance

1. to bring into or keep in a state of equilibrium or equipoise; keep steady

Lately I've been feeling a little off-balanced. A little un-steady. It kind of sneaks up on me when I'm not paying attention and get busy doing 'things' that are all good, just too much at one time. I really admire those women who 'multi-task', who say they get more done the more busier they are. God bless them. But not me. I get overwhelmed and paralyzed.
I am so thankful for the friends that God's put in my life that help me get my equilibrium back. Some of these friends didn't even know I was struggling. Like my good friend Sue, from Eureka...she sent me this card with funny article she thought I'd like. It came on the day I was feeling my worst. God used her without her even knowing it!

And on that worst day, Laura talked me "off the ledge" through text messages. And Cheryl's simple words, "got you covered, friend" in my facebook meant she was praying for me. All of that makes such a difference!
I was looking at the boys on the teeter-totter (well, that's what we called it when I was little)--and noticed they could only be balanced with each other. If one got off, well, there you were stuck on the ground. Husbands, friends, community help keep one balanced. Thank you to my blogfriends, especially, who bring balance to my life through your words of encouragement and thoughtful comments. I am so touched that you take the time to stop by and say hi.

Psalm 119:1You're blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You're blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him. That's right—you don't go off on your own; you walk straight along the road he set. You, God, prescribed the right way to live; now you expect us to live it. Oh, that my steps might be steady, keeping to the course you set; Then I'd never have any regrets in comparing my life with your counsel. I thank you for speaking straight from your heart; I learn the pattern of your righteous ways. I'm going to do what you tell me to do; don't ever walk off and leave me.

  1. Hello
God is loving, isn't he? I feel his love every single day, every hour. In the beautiful plants and flowers HE gives us. In the smiles our children give us. When our children tell us "I love you" it is HE telling us how much he loves us.
Thank you for your wonderful blog and your beautiful post today. I will say a little prayer for ya and everything is gonna be alright:)
    Have a blessed day. :)

  2. My teeter-totter friend, You write so beautifully and am so proud of you sharing your feelings like that. I'm particularly moved by your insight of the two boys balancing each other. God has surrounded you by friends, all over, all who love and adore you. Hold on to us, as we so often have held on to you. I know I thank God for you in my life all the time. We are far away from each other, but close in heart and prayer. I believe the more you share and are open with your struggles, the smaller they will seem. I love you.

  3. Myrna.....I LOVED the thought that we are only balanced with another.....that's really the truth and beauty about friendship! Fabulous illustration that I will steal! Thanks! Laura's words to you were so good too.....bottom line....we need each other! These encourage me as I've felt a little "out of sorts" too.....doing, doing, doing....I need to slow down and do some "being"! Thanks for encouraging me through your honest sharing! Love you friend, Toni

  8. Hhi Myrna,

I LOVE the teeter -totter photo - and your comments. These last couple of months, I have felt so very, very overwhelmed by several hard, sad, and personal issues. Like you, I received a card in the mail on a very sad day, from a "stranger" actually, a blogger! I have never met this person, but she wrote the most encouraging words I ever needed. I know it was God's way of reminding me that He is always here for us, and He comes in all shapes and sizes.

Sometimes, it is faith that I lack. Not in Him, but in myself. And I like the story of how we are all like eggs that try to fly. When we see an egg (a robin's egg, or a chicken egg, or a duck egg...) we all have the faith that the egg has a little chick inside that, with proper time, care and growth, it will become a little chick, or duckling. And that little baby bird must first grow feathers, then fluff around a bit, then one day it will fly, when it is ready. No one would ever look down at an egg and expect it to leap up and fly. And yet, we humans, so often, still in our little shell, demand of ourselves to sprout wings and to fly! And when we don't, we lose faith in ourselves, our abilities and we get discouraged. Then we start to wonder if God has forgotten us. When in reality, God is protecting us because our wings haven't sprouted yet, and they will sprout - but in HIS time, not ours.

    Thanks for the lovely post.
    Love,
    Elizabeth

    Thanks for this wonderful post.
I love the translation of the Message Bible. It certainly nailed it didn't it.
Praying that you will walk that one out.
